PPP and MQM Forge Alliance, Signal End to Deadlock

In a significant development, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) resolved on Wednesday to move past previous grievances, effectively ending the deadlock between the two parties.

Insiders familiar with the matter revealed that a meeting held between President Asif Ali Zardari and a delegation from MQM-P unfolded in an atmosphere of warmth and cooperation.

Led by Federal Minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the MQM delegation convened with President Asif Ali Zardari at the Chief Minister House, extending congratulations on his second term as president.

Accompanying Siddiqui were Dr. Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal, along with other party members. The gathering also included Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

President Zardari reiterated a commitment to inclusive governance, emphasizing the importance of engaging all stakeholders in government affairs. In response, the MQM delegation pledged full cooperation.

However, the MQM seized the opportunity to express dissatisfaction with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), citing a shift in political strategy due to unfulfilled pre-election promises made by the PML-N.

According to sources within the MQM, there is significant discontentment towards the PML-N, as agreements made before the elections have not been honored, despite the MQM’s sincerity in its dealings with the ruling party.

The party lamented that, as a result of the PML-N’s actions, relations with the PPP also suffered, sources added.

MQM leaders, as per the sources, voiced frustration with what they perceive as the PML-N’s reliance on centralized control. They emphasized, “The PML-N appears to believe that concentrating all authority in one person’s hands will solve everything.”

Furthermore, the MQM delegation expressed their intention to establish enduring alliances with the PPP and other political entities.

Meanwhile, addressing concerns about the increasing incidence of street crime in the city, the MQM raised the issue with President Asif Ali Zardari, who directed the interior minister to promptly address the matter.
