Peshawar High Court Suspends ECP Notice Summoning CM Gandapur

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) took action on Tuesday, suspending a notice from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that summoned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in an assets case.

A two-member bench of the PHC, comprising Justice SM Attiq Shah and Justice Shakeel Ahmed, suspended the notice issued by the ECP during the hearing.

The counsel representing the petitioner argued that the ECP no longer had the authority to request details of assets from the previous year, as all such information was readily available on the Election Commission’s website.

Notably, the ECP had previously issued a notice to Chief Minister Gandapur, directing him to appear before the commission on April 30 and submit details of his assets from the previous year.

In response to the notice, CM Gandapur took the matter to the Peshawar High Court (PHC) to challenge the ECP’s decision. The writ petition was filed through his lawyer, Syed Sikandar Hayat Shah Advocate, with the ECP listed as a respondent.

The petition highlighted that Ali Amin Gandapur contested the last general election from provincial assembly constituency PK-113 and was subsequently elected as a Member of the Provincial Assembly. Currently, he serves as the chief minister of the province.
