UN chief calls for transparent probe into May 9 violence

United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk called for transparent probe into May 9 violence, the private news channel reported.

As per details, UN human rights chief said that it is of deep concern that the rule of law is at serious risk in Pakistan.

He stated that he is alarmed by the recent escalation of violence. And by reports of mass arrests carried out and arrests that may amount to arbitrary detention.

The head of the panel urged the authorities to ensure quick, unbiased. And open inquiries into any fatalities or injuries sustained during the protests on May 9.

Furthermore, he stated that respect for human rights, democratic procedures, and the rule of law. As well as the meaningful and unrestricted participation of all facets of society, are the only ways to create a safe, secure, and successful Pakistan.

It is important to mention here that violent clashes broke out across Pakistan after former prime minister (PM) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief (PTI) Imran Khan arrested at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday.

Due to the party workers’ agitation over the detention of their chairman. Rallies held in both remote and populous places, with Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. And Islamabad calling in the armed forces to maintain peace and order.

During a PTI worker protest, the Corps Commander’s home and army installations in Lahore came under attack.
