Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Sets Records

Taylor Swift continues to dominate the Billboard charts with her latest studio album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. This week, the album secured its 11th consecutive week at the top of the Billboard 200, matching the records set by her previous hits ‘1989’ and ‘Fearless’.

If the streak continues for another week, Swift will achieve a milestone not seen since Adele’s ’21’, which spent 24 non-consecutive weeks at No.1 from 2011 to 2012.

‘The Tortured Poets Department’ also marks Swift’s personal achievement as the first female artist to maintain 11 consecutive weeks at No.1 since Whitney Houston‘s ‘The Bodyguard’ in the early 1990s.

This accomplishment adds to Swift’s impressive career on the Billboard 200, totaling 80 weeks at No.1, surpassing even Elvis Presley’s iconic 67 weeks. Swift’s success spans across 14 albums that have reached the top spot.

In terms of sales, ‘Poets’ has sold over 114,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. alone as of last week.

Swift surprised fans with ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, a double album released in April 2023. The album features songs reflecting themes of heartbreak and personal struggles, described by Swift as a pivotal chapter in her life.
