Shahid Afridi Surprised by Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq Removal

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi expressed surprise over the sudden removal of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the PCB’s selection committee. Currently in London for the World Championship of Legends 2024, Afridi spoke to media about the recent development.

Afridi questioned the logic behind the removal of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq, highlighting that the selection committee had seven members. “Why target only two?” he asked, finding the “surgery” beyond comprehension.

Afridi also commented on Babar Azam’s captaincy, stating that he has been given numerous chances to prove himself. “In the past, captains were sacked after every World Cup, but Babar has had multiple opportunities,” Afridi noted.

The PCB’s decision to remove Wahab Riaz as senior team manager and Mansoor Rana as team manager signals a significant overhaul ahead of the Bangladesh series.

Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq’s expulsion from the selection committee is part of the “major surgery” hinted at by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Afridi’s comments add to the ongoing conversation about the PCB’s shakeup, with many questioning the reasoning behind the sudden changes.

The PCB has decided to bring in new faces to the team management ahead of the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Wahab Riaz was also expelled from the seven-member Pakistan Men’s Cricket Selection Committee yesterday, along with former cricketer Abdul Razzaq.
