PM Sharif Announces Rs50 Billion Relief Package for Electricity Consumers

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled a substantial Rs50 billion relief package aimed at domestic electricity consumers using up to 200 units per month. Addressing an energy sector reforms ceremony in Islamabad, he outlined that the subsidy will cover 25 million consumers, approximately 94% of total domestic users, during July, August, and September.

Under the initiative, electricity costs will be subsidized to range between Rs4 and Rs7 per unit, including consumers served by K-Electric. The funding for this program will be drawn from the development budget, as specified by the prime minister.

Shehbaz Sharif stressed that the relief package seeks to alleviate financial burdens on households, especially during the challenging summer months when electricity consumption peaks. He also highlighted that with temperatures typically lowering from October onwards, electricity demand tends to decrease.

The prime minister reaffirmed the coalition government’s dedication to addressing national challenges, emphasizing the critical role of combating corruption in effectively managing Pakistan’s economic difficulties.
