OpenAI, a startup backed by Microsoft, has unveiled a desktop version of its AI chatbot, ChatGPT-4o, amidst the escalating global competition in the field of artificial intelligence.

During a live-streamed event, Mira Murati, the technology chief at Sam Altman’s company, announced that GPT-4 is now accessible to everyone, including free users of the San Francisco-based company. Murati emphasized the significant advancement in user-friendliness with this release, marking a notable step forward for accessibility.

CEO Sam Altman expressed excitement about the forthcoming release in a message on X Friday, hinting at something truly remarkable and beloved by users.

Murati highlighted the enhanced capabilities of the new model, GPT-4o, stating it is notably faster and offers improvements in text, video, and audio processing. Additionally, the model boasts enhanced quality and speed across 50 different languages, and it will be available via OpenAI’s API, allowing developers to integrate it into applications immediately. GPT-4o is reported to be twice as fast and half the cost of its predecessor, GPT-4 Turbo.

Furthermore, OpenAI demonstrated the new model’s audio capabilities, showcasing its ability to perceive emotions and handle interruptions from users. Mark Chen, an OpenAI researcher, underscored the model’s adaptive nature, highlighting its capacity to adjust to user interactions seamlessly.
