Mustafa Kamal: Audio Leak Mine, No New Fake Mandate Info

Mustafa Kamal, Senior Deputy Convener of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), confirmed that the audio leak circulating on social media was his, but insisted that his party’s rivals’ claims that their mandate is fake are nothing new.

“An audio clip credited to me has gone viral on social media. I support it,” Kamal, who served as Karachi’s mayor and was elected as an MNA in the general elections, said in a brief video statement.

In the leaked audio clip, Kamal began by explaining to his party’s Rabita Committee the events that occurred when a MQM-P delegation went to meet with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders.

The MQM-P and the PML-N are negotiating the formation of a government at the Centre, with several rounds of talks already underway in preparation for the National Assembly session.

“We were called late at night to meet with PML-N members. According to the audio, Kamal stated, “It felt like […] they were not in the mood to meet us.”

He stated that the PML-N delegation informed their MQM-P counterparts that following this meeting, they would have to meet with PPP leadership. MQM-P leaders inquired about the current status of the agreement. They were informed that the discussions were confidential.

“But they told us two things: the PPP claims that the MQM-P’s mandate is completely false. The second is the PPP’s claim that the PML-N and the PPP have complete numbers for government formation. So the MQM-P should be ignored.”

In a later explanation of the video, Kamal stated that the audio was authentic. And that he was informing his party members about the meetings with the PML-N on Sunday.

“You are all aware that the People’s Party is saying this publicly on television. We also claim that their mandate is fake, and vice versa. “There is no news here,” the top MQM-P leader stated.

He went on to say that the “important point” of all of this was that it was a Rabita Committee meeting. “For several days. We suspected that some people belonging to MQM-London were amongst our rank and file and they are working for them.”

Kamal added that after a thorough forensic examination of the audio, we received confirmation as to who leaked it. “This was released [by a member of the MQM-London].”

The former mayor of Karachi also claimed that MQM-London released the audio because they believed they had “something very big.”
