Matthew Hayden, Paul Collingwood predict T20 World Cup 2024 finalists

As fans revel in the high-energy matches of the T20 World Cup 2024, which kicked off over the weekend, several former players and cricket pundits have started predicting the semi-finalists and finalists of the mega-event.

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden and ex-England all-rounder Paul Collingwood are among the veterans who recently shared their thoughts on potential finalists for the tournament, being held in the United States and the West Indies.

In an interview with Indian media, Hayden expressed his belief that India and Australia will make it to the final. On the other hand, Collingwood backed England and the co-hosts West Indies to battle for the trophy.

Previously, former Indian batter Yuvraj Singh also predicted the finalists for the T20 World Cup 2024. Yuvraj, a key player in India’s T20 World Cup 2007-winning squad, believes the finalists will include two teams from India, West Indies, or Pakistan. He humorously added that he hopes Australia will not make it to the final.

“I’m hoping India, probably West Indies. Pakistan three, and no Australians (laughs),” Yuvraj said at an event in the US.

As the ambassador of the T20 World Cup, Yuvraj supports India to win the tournament if they maintain self-belief. He emphasized that self-confidence and playing to their strengths were crucial for India’s success.

“I believe we have the self-belief of winning big tournaments. I think if India believes and backs themselves and plays to their own strengths, I’m sure they’ll go all the way. And that’s what I believe in,” Yuvraj said, quoted by Indian media.

Reflecting on past successes, Yuvraj added, “I think that’s the reason why we won. We focused on where, and how we are good and the things that we need to do rather than thinking of where the opposition was going to harm us. We have the match winners.”
