KARACHI: Sindh education department would today mull over a delay in intermediate exams in the province owing to the first phase of local government elections scheduled on June 16. Private News channel reported.    

The secretary of school education would head a meeting today to decide on the delay which could further delay the commencement of the academic session.

According to the decisions taken by the education ministry’s steering committee, the intermediate exams scheduled to begin on June 15. Which could now affected owing to local bodies elections on June 16 in 14 districts of the province.

Meanwhile, the education ministry has opposed any delay in intermediate exams in Karachi and Hyderabad. Where local government elections will take place in the second phase.

The Election Commission of Pakistan had conveyed Sindh government that the local bodies elections in Karachi and Hyderabad would held on July 24.

“The first phase of local bodies election will held on June 26. Election in Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Mirpurkhas,” Aijaz Chohan said. Adding that elections in second phase will held in Karachi and Hyderabad on July 24.
