 Israel Launches Fresh Strikes on Gaza, Hundreds Flee

Israel has carried out fresh strikes on southern Gaza, forcing hundreds of Palestinians to flee their homes. The strikes came after the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of certain densely populated areas, including Al-Qarara, Bani Suhaila, and other towns in Rafah and Khan Yunis.

Multiple Strikes Reported, Casualties Mount

Witnesses reported multiple strikes in and around Khan Yunis, resulting in at least eight deaths and over 30 injuries. The Palestinian Red Crescent and medical sources confirmed the casualties.

Islamic Jihad Claims Responsibility for Rocket Barrage

The militant group Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for a rare rocket barrage aimed at Israeli communities near the Gaza border. The rockets were fired in retaliation for Israeli “crimes… against our Palestinian people”.

Israeli Military Response

The Israeli military reported intercepting most of the rockets and striking the sources of fire. They also announced the death of a soldier in southern Gaza, bringing their total toll to 317.

Humanitarian Crisis Worsens

The war has resulted in a devastating humanitarian crisis, with over 37,900 people killed, mostly civilians. The UN and relief agencies have voiced alarm over the dire situation and the threat of starvation faced by Gaza’s 2.4 million people.

Displacement and Human Rights Abuses

Over one million people have been displaced, with many forced to flee to Gaza’s southernmost city. Reports of human rights abuses, including torture, have surfaced, with the director of Gaza City’s Al-Shifa hospital, Mohammed Abu Salmiya, alleging severe torture during his detention.
