How to extend the (nearly) endless life of your iPhone

iPhones are expensive. A lot of us want to get a few good years out of our iPhones. The good news is, you can make your iPhone last a really long time if you use it properly. And by properly I mean following a few simple rules would easily extend the endless life of your iPhone considerably.

Let’s take a look at how we can achieve that:

1. Use Original Charger

Apple’s original charger works perfectly in sync with the phone.

There are other rapid chargers available in the market. Rapid charging may charge your phone faster but it’s not always a good idea. Faster charging increases the heat of the battery of the iPhone which can, in turn, negatively affect other components inside the phone. It will shorten the lifespan of both the battery and the phone.

2. Don’t Always Use A Case

A case is good, or even essential, to save the phone from the damage it can get from drops and scratches. It is, however, a good idea to take the case off while you are charging the phone. Even Apple recommends you do so. This is because charging the phone generates heat. A case can trap that heat and damage the battery and the phone. This will shorten the lifespan of the phone.

3. Low Power Mode

As you probably already know by now, you can turn on Low Power Mode at any time. You don’t have to wait for the battery power to drop below 20% in order for the iOS to automatically turn the Low Power Mode on. You should keep it on all the time. It reduces or turns off the apps that run in the background and thus it reduces the overall load on the system and the battery. This is a good way to extend the overall longevity of your iPhone.

4. Airplane Mode

If you are in an area with a weak cellular signal, it will force your cellular components to use more power. So a lowe-strength cellular signal will cause your iPhone’s components to work harder which will generate more heat inside the device. This could shorten your iPhone’s lifespan. It is recommended that you turn on Airplane Mode whenever possible.

5. 80% Charge And Extreme Temperatures

Do not let the iPhone’s battery reach zero or 100%. Do not, also, charge the iPhone past 80%. 80% charge is ideal for the battery’s health. The health of the battery diminishes every time you complete a charge cycle.

Regarding extreme temperatures, your device is designed to perform within a certain temperature range. If you expose your iPhone to an ambient temperature that is higher than 95° F (35° C), it can permanently damage the capacity of the battery.
