Former SpaceX Workers File Lawsuit Against Elon Musk

Accusations of Sexist “Dark Ages” Culture and Wrongful Termination

A group of former SpaceX workers has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk, accusing him of fostering a sexist “Dark Ages” culture at the company and wrongfully terminating them after they spoke out against it.

Lawsuit Details Allegations

The civil complaint, filed in a California court in Los Angeles, alleges that Musk created a hostile work environment where women were objectified and subjected to lewd sexual banter. The plaintiffs claim they were fired after publishing an open letter detailing their concerns and calling on the SpaceX board to distance itself from Musk.

Charges Against Musk and SpaceX

The lawsuit charges Musk and SpaceX with:

  • Sexual harassment
  • Discrimination
  • Retaliation
  • Wrongful termination

Plaintiffs’ Attorney Statement

“Musk thinks he’s above the law,” said plaintiffs’ attorney Laurie Burgess. “We look forward to holding Musk accountable for his actions at trial.”

Prior Complaint with NLRB

The fired workers had previously filed a complaint with the US National Labor Relations Board, but Musk’s legal team has been trying to derail it.

Plaintiff Statement

“Filing this suit marks an important milestone in our quest for justice, for holding leadership accountable, and for implementing responsible changes in workplace policies for our colleagues at SpaceX who continue to toil in a hostile work environment,” said plaintiff Paige Holland-Thielen.

SpaceX’s Alleged Hostile Work Environment

According to the lawsuit and complaints to regulators, SpaceX fostered a hostile work environment where:

  • Jokes about sexual harassment were commonplace
  • Women were paid less than men
  • Workers who complained were dismissed

The lawsuit seeks justice and accountability for the former employees and aims to bring about changes in SpaceX’s workplace policies.
