Embracing Culture and Healing Wounds; The Manipuri Women

In a cozy New Delhi apartment, three resilient Manipuri women are turning adversity into opportunity as they share slices of their culture and life through Lomba Kitchen. Despite facing trauma and displacement due to ethnic violence in Manipur, Bidotama, Mardza, and Akoijam Sunita have found solace and purpose in their shared love for cooking and their determination to rebuild their lives.

Bidotama and Mardza, former digital marketing managers from Imphal, now dedicate their days to preparing delicious meals for Lomba Kitchen’s Sunday lunch service. With the guidance and support of their Delhi-based friend and team leader, Akoijam, they have transformed their passion for cooking into a thriving business venture.

Named after the Lomba herb, which holds special significance in Manipuri culture, Lomba Kitchen symbolizes resilience and nostalgia for home. Despite the challenges they have faced, these women are determined to spread joy and connection through their traditional Manipuri dishes, infused with love and memories of their homeland.

As they chop, stir, and grind ingredients, laughter fills the air as they reminisce about their shared experiences and the healing power of food. With each meal prepared with care and attention to detail, Lomba Kitchen not only serves delicious cuisine but also fosters a sense of community and belonging for customers near and far.

In the face of adversity, Lomba Kitchen stands as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of culinary traditions to bridge divides and inspire hope.
