COAS Asim Munir calls on Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan

ANKARA: Pakistan and Turkey have long-standing, close-knit relations, according to Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir.

During discussions while on an official visit to the Republic of Turkey, he stated, “The Pakistan Army is always willing to extend full support to the Turkish Land Forces in multiple domains.”

According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the visit is a part of high-level bilateral visits by the two friendly nations to strengthen their long-standing diplomatic and military ties.

The Army Chief met with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Foreign and Defense Ministers, the Commander of the Turkish General Staff, and the Commanders of the Turkish Land and Air Forces during his visit.

The COAS placed a strong emphasis on strengthening defense and training cooperation throughout the sessions. He commended the Turkish military’s operational readiness standards and efforts to uphold peace and stability in the area.

The leaders of Turkey expressed appreciation for the work done by Pakistani Army engineers who assisted the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) teams following the terrible earthquake that struck Turkey in February of this year.

COAS Munir paid respects to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk by visiting his mausoleum in Ankara and laying a wreath at his tomb.

The Army Chief later paid a visit to the Turkish Land Forces Headquarters, where he was greeted warmly and given a guard of honor.
