Building Collapses in Karachi Amidst Heavy Rain and Winds

A section of a deteriorating building collapsed in Karachi’s Burns Road area following strong winds and heavy rain. It was previously marked dangerous by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) due to visible cracks, fortunately caused no casualties as it was unoccupied at the time.

Director General of SBCA confirmed that notices had been issued to the building’s occupants before the heavy rain, and plans are underway to safely demolish it. The SBCA is actively monitoring 115 other high-risk structures in South District amidst a rain emergency declared in the city.

Earlier incidents from the first spell of monsoon rain claimed one life and injured another in different areas like Scheme 33, Safoora Goth, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Collapsed signboards and walls were reported in Surjani Town and Gulshan-e-Muamar, highlighting the impact of strong winds during the storm, which also caused widespread power outages across Karachi.
