A 5.3 magnitude earthquake jolted Swat other KP areas

ISLAMABAD(SWAT), 08 July: A 5.3 magnitude earthquake jolted Swat, Malakand, Buner, and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Thursday.

The epicentre of the earthquake was located at the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border area at a depth of 168 kilometres.

No casualties or damages were reported due to the tremors, according to reports.

On June 17, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad. Tremors were felt in Islamabad, Murree, Abbottabad, Swat, Battagram, Mansehra and adjoining areas in the region.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad, the epicenter of a moderate-intensity quake was at 25 kilometres distance from Mingora and its depth was 20 kilometres.

Japan resumed rescue operations for 20 missing people early on Sunday after landslides triggered by torrential rains hit the central city of Atami, killing at least two, Kyodo news agency said.

About 10 people were rescued after floods, landslides and cascading mud collapsed and half-submerged houses on Saturday in the seaside city 90 km (60 miles) southwest of Tokyo, Kyodo said, adding about 80 buildings were affected.

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, who convened an emergency task force to tackle the crisis, on Saturday asked people in the affected areas to remain on alert.
