2024 General Elections: Schools Closed All Next Week

ISLAMABAD: In observance of Kashmir Day and the general elections in 2024, schools around the nation will be closed for the full week.

The federal directorate of education, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. And Sindh have announced that the states’ schools will be closed from February 3 to February 11.

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training announced in a statement that “public holidays from February 6 to 9 have declared in view of the upcoming general elections 2024, which will be held in Pakistan on February 8, 2024.”

The federal capital’s educational institutions would “reopen February 10 (Saturday),” it added.

The public and private schools, however, would actually remain shut from February 3 to 11. The schools observe two weekly holidays —Saturday and Sunday — hence it would remain closed on Saturday (February 3).

In addition to this, the federal government had declared February 5 (Monday). A public holiday on account of “Kashmir Solidarity Day”. The educational facilities would remain closed from February 6 to 9 due to the general elections.

Following a 9-day break, the schools would reopen on February 12 (Monday).

PUNJAB

The Punjab government also decided to keep schools, colleges. And universities across the province closed from February 6 to 9 in the backdrop of the general elections slated for February 8.

As per the Punjab cabinet, the decision would apply to public and private educational institutes both.

SINDH

The Sindh Education Department has also announced the closure of all public. And private educational institutions across the province from February 6 to 9 due to the forthcoming February 8 nationwide polls.

The public and private schools, colleges. And universities will remain closed from February 5 to 9 – as Feb 5 has already announced as a public holiday on account of Kashmir Day.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government also decided to keep the educational institutes closed across the province from February 6 to 9 in the light of upcoming general elections. 

All public and private schools, colleges. And universities in the province will be closed during the specified time, according to a notification issued in this regard.

Pakistan, which has a voter population of over 128 million, will hold important elections this time around because of the political and economic unrest in the nation.

In order to maintain law and order throughout the nation, increased security. And the deployment of law enforcement personnel are planned for the February 8 election.
